Bernard J. McGarr , 84 of Allentown passed away Sept. 8, 2016 at St. Luke’s Hospice in Lower Saucon Twp. He was the husband of Eleanor (Long) McGarr and the late JoAnn (Shryock) McGarr (deceased January 20th, 1980).

He was born May 20th, 1932 in Fountain Hill, son of the late John and Mary (Brady) McGarr

He was a graduate of Central Catholic High School. Sports was a major part of his life, playing baseball, basketball and football as a teen and young adult, including CFL Toronto Argonauts. He played Men’s Softball until his early 50’s. He was a long time coach for the former St. Ursula’s School, Bethlehem Steelers and Fountain Hill Little League.

He served in the U. S. Army. Worked at The Bethlehem Fabricators, Bethlehem Steel and retired after 37 years at Mack Trucks.

Survivors: Sons Richard and wife Amy, John and wife Meredith. Daughters Kelly, Jacqueline wife of Michael Anderson and Janine companion of David Groller. Four grandsons, three granddaughters and two great granddaughters. Daughter Diane Odenwelder wife of Jeffrey, their two sons, stepson, Robert Moyer, wife Lori, stepdaughter Kim Ann Yoffee wife of Edward; 8 step grandchildren and 17 step great grandchildren. Predeceased by a step daughter Barbara Moyer, step grandson Christopher Hughes, sister JoAnn Bertrand, brothers Thomas, Richard and Father Joseph McGarr.
