Merlin H. Davidson
Merlin H. Davidson, of Bethlehem, PA passed away peacefully at age 83 at home on June 3, 2023. Merlin was the husband of Patricia Ann “Patty” (Timms) Davidson. Merlin and Patty were married 62 years on April 1st.
Merlin was born in Worthington, West Virginia on November 13, 1939, son of the late Hoy and Thelma (Wood) Davidson.
In 1951 at age 11, he played in the Little League World Series as a member of the team from Fairmont West Virginia which finished 3rd. In 1954 at age 14, Merlin was a member of the team from Fairmont, West Virginia that won the Pony League World Series. Merlin attended Monongah High School in West Virginia where he was a 4-year letterman in baseball, basketball and football and was student body president. Merlin was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity at Fairmont State College where he graduated with honors in 1962 with a BA in Teaching. He attended Ohio State University where he received his Master’s degree in Guidance Counseling.
Merlin taught history and math as well as coached football at Salem High School in Salem, Ohio. He was also the head basketball coach for Salem Junior High School.
Merlin retired from Bethlehem Steel Corporation after 32 years as Manager of Human Resources, Planning and Development.
Merlin also coached baseball for Northwest Little League and Bath Senior Legion.
Merlin loved to play golf and was a member of the Bethlehem Steel Club/Silver Creek CC in Hellertown, PA.
He was a member of Advent Moravian Church where he served on the board.
Survivors: Wife Patty, sons Dean R. Davidson of Greenville, SC and Todd B. Davidson husband of Dawn of Berwyn, PA, three grandchildren Ryan husband of Kayla, Courtney wife of Drew and Drew; great-grandchildren Miles and Carter. Predeceased by a brother Melvin Guy Davidson.
