Catherine L. Meckstroth
Catherine L. Meckstroth, 89 of Bethlehem passed away on February 6, 2024, in Cedarbrook Nursing Home in Allentown. She was the wife of Edwin A. Meckstroth for 62 years until his passing on November 12, 2018.
Catherine was born in Allentown on January 14, 1935, daughter of the late Harold and Rose (Jaindl) Heiney.
Catherine graduated from Allen High School and received her Associate degree in Accounting from DeSales University.
She was a bookkeeper and accountant at Quaker Shoe Corporation, Good Shepherd Home and retired from the Hispanic American Organization.
She was a member of Central Moravian Church in Bethlehem and was the first female member of the Bethlehem Moravian Trombone Choir. Catherine was known for her trumpet playing throughout the Lehigh Valley and performed with various community groups including the Bethlehem Municipal Band, Nazareth Community Band, Catasauqua Band, the Italian American Band and was a 27-year member of the Allentown Pioneer Band. Catherine performed with Civic Theater, Munopco, and many local high school theater pit orchestras. In addition to these organizations, she would travel to Winston Salem to perform with the Salem Trombone Choir and perform at the Moravian Music Festivals.
Catherine was an avid bowler and was past president of the Allentown Women’s Bowling Association and served on many State Tournament Committees.
Survivors: Daughters Nancy A. Meckstroth spouse of Karen L. Ferrey of Bethlehem and Carrie E. McCoy of Plymouth, MA, sons David A. Meckstroth of Bethlehem and Rev. Andrew W. Meckstroth husband of Rev. Dr. Lynnette Delbridge of Bethlehem; eleven grandchildren, sister Marilyn Pezoldt of Allentown, brother Harold Heiney, Jr. of Allentown.
There will be a celebration of life at Central Moravian Church’s Chapel on April 20, 2024 at 1:00pm with a reception to follow at the Christian Education Building.
