Louise P. Chiaparas
Louise P. Chiaparas, 98 of Allentown, passed away on May 29, 2024. She was married to Spiro Chiaparas for 49 years until his passing on December 25, 2000.
Louise, the daughter of the late Demeter and Androniki (Paraskeva) Savopoulos, was born in Bethlehem on February 13, 1926.
Louise graduated from Liberty High School in 1943. She attended Moravian and, later, Muhlenberg Colleges.
Louise, after college, worked in the Corporate Offices at Bethlehem Steel. She married Spiro in 1951 and raised their three sons. Louise helped Spiro run the Brass Rail Restaurant and the Gaslight Lounge in Bangor, Maine from 1956 – 1981.In 1986, she began to work as a secretary at Muhlenberg and over her 23 year career she worked in the development office, the admissions office, and then in the registrar’s office where she loved greeting incoming students. Louise retired in 2009. During the 1990’s, she took art classes and produced art work that was displayed at the College Annual Art Show. She also learned Tai Chi.
Louise was a member of the Shakespeare Club and she served as President of the Symphony Women in Bangor. She was also a two-term Town Councilor in Hampden, Maine. She was an active member of the Ladies Philoptichos at St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Bangor, and she was also a Past President of the Daughters of Penelope, Epikaste Chapter #61 in Allentown. Louise was a lifelong member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Bethlehem.
Survivors: Three sons E. Michael Chiaparas, husband of Susan, of Falls Church, VA James S. Chiaparas of Allentown, and Dean J. Chiaparas of Wind Gap; four grandchildren Nicholas Chiaparas, husband of Jessica, Courtney Chiaparas, Kristina Cowen, wife of Shane, and Alexa Frazier, wife of Alan; five great-grandchildren Luke and Emery Chiaparas, Theo and Tessa Cowen and Asher Frazier. She was predeceased by three sisters, Mary Stevens, Elsie Phillips and Alice Petrakis, as well as her brother, Michael Savopoulos.
Viewing and Service: Saturday June 15, 2024, viewing 10AM to 11AM, with service at 11AM all at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral 1607 West Union Blvd. Bethlehem, PA 18018.
