Gus Zannakis
Gus Zannakis, 88 of Easton and Allentown Pa, passed away on April 15, 2024 surrounded by his family at St. Luke’s Hospital in Fountain Hill. He was the husband of Eleni (Kounoupis) Zannakis for 55 years until her passing in August of 2020.
Gus was born in Andros, Greece on March 14, 1936, son of the late John and Maria (Manesis) Zannakis. He travelled back to Andros as often as he could and still has a lot of family and loved ones on the island. Some of his favorite things to do was to walk into town, cook for his family and swim in the sea with his grandchildren.
Gus was an immigrant and came to this country when he was a young boy. In 1976 Gus and Eleni purchased Gus’s Crossroads Inn which became a mainstay of the community. He and his wife owned and operated Gus’s Crossroads Inn in Bethlehem in for over 38 years.
Gus was a life member of the Order of AHEPA, Homer Chapter #65 in Bethlehem. In his retirement he often cooked for the Senior Citizen luncheon at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Bethlehem, in which he and Eleni were members, for several decades.
Gus is survived by his son, John Zannakis and his wife Melissa ( Manta ) of Center Valley, daughter Maria (Zannakis ) Manakos of Allentown, sister Angeliki ( Zannakis ) Manesis of Andros Greece, five grandchildren Peter and Kosta Manakos, Constantine, Andreas and Maya Zannakis. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their children who he loved like they were his own. Predeceased by his brothers Demetrios and Petros and by his beloved son in law George Manakos.
Viewing and Service: Saturday April 20, 2024, viewing 9AM to 10:30 AM followed by the Funeral service at 10:30AM all at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 1607 West Union Blvd. Bethlehem, PA 18018. Burial in Cedar Hill Memorial Park Cemetery in Allentown. www.Herronfuneralhomes.com
