Jonathan M. Dech
Jonathan M. Dech, 53 of Macungie passed away peacefully on May 14, 2021 at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest. A gentle man with a big heart, Jon always thought of others first. He was born on February 23rd, 1968 in Allentown, PA to the late Roderick and Nancy (Weida) Dech. Jon was the oldest of three children. He attended Anderson University, located in Anderson Indiana, where he graduated with a BA in Economics and met his wife Karen. As a devoted family man, Jon poured himself into his family and work. He cherished spending time with his family, often demonstrated by planning adventurous family vacations.
Jon loved all things financial. He started his early career as a loan officer and gradually worked his way up to Office Supervisor within several loan companies. In 2008, Jon switched careers from underwriting to pipelines and started to work for Buckeye Pipeline. First he started as a Pipeline Controller, and then promoted to a Terminal Scheduler in 2011. He found the job both challenging yet exciting. Jon strived to provide excellent customer relations while still remaining resourceful in troubleshooting pipeline conflict. Jon enjoyed working with all of his co workers: there was plenty of appreciation for the comradery he had among his peers.
As an active member of Life Church Macungie, Jon regularly attended with his family. Being a strong man of faith, he often found himself serving in various positions of the church. Volunteering was a usual occurrence for Jon: he loved to serve with his community through charitable works like soup kitchens and donating his time to those in need. He also played an active role in ministry groups like Fight Club.
In his spare time, he enjoyed collecting and raising young cacti and other tropical plants. He valued car rides with his children and talking about classic cars. Although seemingly modest and soft-spoken, Jonathan’s quirky and affectionate personality shines through with Hawaiian print shirts, unsolicited fun facts, and his novelty home decorations. Jon was keen on setting the mood for each holiday, especially with his plethora of halloween decal. His heart is one built of servitude: he always wanted to provide his best to help his family and friends.
