Richard M. Nalichowski
Richard M. Nalichowski, 83 of Coopersburg, PA formerly of Connecticut, passed away on August 11, 2024 at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Lana (Robinson) Nalichowski, they were married 52 years on July 22.
Richard was born in Praszka Poland, during World War II on April 19, 1941 son of the late Stanley and Helena (Przyjemska). The family was relocated to Germany in 1944, spending time in a farm labor camp. They emigrated to Beacon Falls, Connecticut in 1949. Richard became a naturalized citizen in 1964.
Graduated from Naugatuck High School in 1960. Certificate from Yale New Haven Hospital Respiratory Therapy Program. Teaching certificate, SUNY-Buffalo. Associate degree from Quinnipiac University. Bachelor’s degree from Thomas Edison State University.
He was a Registered and Licensed Respiratory Therapist, one of the early pioneers in the field. He taught as an Assistant Professor at the Community College of Philadelphia for twenty years. He worked at many hospitals and home health agencies in New England, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.
He served in the US Naval Reserve for 16 years as a Corpsman, attaining the rank of Petty Officer First Class. This allowed him to travel extensively and actually see the world.
He spent time volunteering as an Ombudsman at the Area Agencies on Aging of Lehigh and Northampton Counties, ShareCare, and RSVP advising seniors with Medicare and other benefits. He served several terms on the Coopersburg Borough Council, and as their representative to MECAB. He also served as a local Judge of Elections for many years. He volunteered for many years with Cub and Boy Scouts as an Adult Leader and Merit Badge Counselor, including Pack and Troop 364.
He was a lifelong avid collector and member of several Stamp and Coin clubs. He owned a Sports Memorbilia and Collectibles store at several locations in Montgomery County. He organized Sports Card shows and autograph sessions for many years at local malls. He enjoyed travelling and exploring extensively throughout his life and took his family on many memorable adventures.
Survivors: Wife Lana Nalichowski, sons Richard Lee (Sandra Johnson) and Carl David (Patricia), granddaughter Violet, his little one. Niece Helena Szkoropad (Hugh O’Kell). Predeceased by sister Wieska Szkoropad (Dymytri), and seven infant siblings.
Service: Wednesday August 14th , 2024 The Family will receive guests from 6PM to 7PM followed by the service at 7PM all in the Sell-Herron Funeral Home 1145 Lehigh Street Allentown, PA 18103.
Interment: Thursday August 15th , 2024 at 10AM in Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery: 60 Indiantown Gap Road Annville, PA 17003-9618
