Paul E.G. Miller
Paul E.G. Miller, 89 of Fountain Hill died on March 25, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family. Husband of Cornelia (Faga) Miller they were married 65 years on August 26th.
Paul was born in Fountain Hill on November 12, 1926, son of the late Paul A.L. and Winifred (Rapp) Miller.
He attended Fountain Hill Schools from 1932 to 1944. Paul went to all buildings including Wilson, Wilbur, Salisbury Twp-Washington School, Stevens, and graduated from Fountain Hill High School in 1944. He was a Life Member of Fountain Hill HS Alumni Association.
He worked at the Acme Store on the corner of Lynn and Broadway from 1942 to 1944, while attending High School.
Paul received his BS in Chemistry from Moravian College in 1947 and his Masters in Education from Lehigh University in 1954.
He was a teacher at Fountain Hill High School from 1949 to 1967. During those 18 years he taught Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and General Science. He was a Class Advisor, Drama Coach, Basketball Coach for 11 years with 2 undefeated JV Teams in 1952-1953 and 1959-1960.
Paul then became School Administrator from 1967 to 1985 serving as Principal of Broughal, Nitschman, and Northeast Middle Schools. He was then the Administrative Assistant to the School Superintendent.
He was a member of PA State Educators Association, Bethlehem Principals Association, National Association of Secondary School Principals and the PA Association of Secondary School Principals Association. Paul was a Life Member of the National Education Association, Life Member of the Bethlehem Area School Retirees serving as President from 1988 to 1990, Life Member of the Northampton County School Retirees and Life Member of the PA Association of School Retirees.
He joined the Fountain Hill Hose Co. #1 in 1953, served as Secretary and Treasurer for 30 years from 1957 to 1987. He was a Life Member of Fireman’s Relief Association. He was a member of the Fountain Hill Citizens Committee and helped to raise funds to construct the Pool which as later given to the Borough of Fountain Hill. He was also a member of the Fountain Hill Centennial Committee. Paul was the Fountain Hill Playground Supervisor from 1951 to 1961.
He worked summers for 50 years at The Great Allentown Fair from 1962 to 2012.
Paul was a member of the Bethlehem Area School Men’s Club, member of the Goodfellows, member of the MORA Club, serving on the Audit Committee from 1995 to 1997, member of the Board of Directors of the Lehigh County Agricultural Society-The Allentown Fair, serving as a Board Member since 1998.
Paul was a life time member of The Cathedral Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem serving on the Choir for 70 years. Paul was an avid fisherman.
Survivors: His wife Cornelia, three sons Paul E.G. Miller, Jr. of Lower Saucon Twp, David R. Miller, husband of Tara of Fountain Hill and Jeffrey M. Miller, his spouse Joseph J. Deitz of Fort Lauderdale, FL. His five grandchildren Paul R. Miller, husband of Sara, Debra M. Elias, wife of Fahim, James T. Miller, Caitlin E. Hertzog, wife of Anthony and Matthew J. Deitz; seven great grandchildren Matthew, Catherine, Antoine, Mallory, Megan, Autel and Abigail. Nephews Michael Faga and John Faga. Predeceased by a daughter-in-law Shirley A. Miller.
Service: Funeral Service on Wednesday March 30, 2016 at 10 AM in the Cathedral Church of the Nativity 321 Wyandotte Street Bethlehem. There will be a viewing on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8:30 PM in the John F. Herron Funeral Home 458 Center At Market Street in Bethlehem. Burial in Greenwood Cemetery in Allentown.
