Alan E. Engler
Alan E. Engler’s earthly journey peacefully ended on Wednesday, August 23, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Margie (Seng) Engler, they were married 53 years on April 18. Alan, fondly known as Al and affectionately known as Pap Pap, was 76 years old.
Al was born on April 4, 1947 in Nanticoke, PA to Sophie (Dombrowski) and Forrest Engler. After leaving Liberty High School’s gridiron in 1966 he transitioned into a “cook in training” position at the Hotel Bethlehem. Following his father’s path, he spent years working construction, ultimately getting behind the wheel of the ‘big-rigs’ before retiring from Pjax in 2006. He loved cooking for his family, especially holiday meals, favorite birthday meals, and batches upon batches of Christmas cookies. He was famous for his Italian hoagies, apple dumplings and Al’s Big Batch of Thanksgiving filling. Al loved traveling the country roads with his wife Margie as they adored the colors of fall while searching for the elusive American Bald Eagle. His thumb was greener than a shamrock. His tomato plants would bend under the weight of softball size tomatoes and his Geraniums would blossom as bright and beautiful as a Cardinal. Al would proudly show off his Lionel Train display to his grandchildren and anyone else who showed interest. Al was a simple man, a family man who loved his coffee, Mary Ann’s donuts, hot rods and, most of all, his family.
Al was a member of the Cathedral Church of St. Catherine of Siena in Allentown.
Al was preceded in death by his mother Sophie and his father, Forrest.
He is survived by his wife, Margie (Seng), daughter Michele M. Albright wife of Jay, sons Michael A. Engler, Matthew D. Engler husband of Erin, four grandchildren, Samuel (13), Julia (11), Keegan (6), and Levi (3), and his sister Sharon Engler.
