Perry Underhill
Perry Underhill, 85 of Bethlehem, passed away on February 21, 2019 under hospice care at Lehigh Valley Hospital Cedar Crest.
Perry was raised in Forest Hills, Queens, NY. He played football in high school. He spent his summers in Cataumet on Cape Cod, playing tennis, swimming, sailing and getting into mischief.
As an adult he joined the Navy and became a Corpsman and served from 1952-1956. Even though the Korean War was going on he was able to take a science trip to the southern end of South America and ultimately down to the Antarctic Circle.
After the service, he became a City Bus driver with Carey Bus lines for 11 years. He then moved on to make a career at and retired from Amtrak, where he served in many positions, working from some of the yards to Penn Station. He retired, moved to Vermont and in 2004, he moved to Pennsylvania and came to reside with his daughter Carol and husband, Rich.
He became a Member of Grace Church of Bethlehem.
Survivors: Daughter Carol Herdman and son-in-law Rich Herdman, his grandson Anthony Libis and his Great Grandchildren, Austin and Brianna Libis; His cousin Samuel Graham Underhill and his wife Sandy; his stepsons that he helped raise and called his own; Rick Sichler (his wife Amanda and their children Evalyn and Kealy), Jason Sichler (his wife Judy and their children Benjamin and Henry), Scott Sichler (his wife Melissa and their son Ryan), and other that called him Grandpa and loved him as their own; Patty and Erin Taylor and Shyann, Tricia and Michaela Timms.
Service: Viewing Sunday, February 24th from 3PM-5PM followed by a funeral service at 5PM in the John F. Herron Funeral Home, 458 Center Street, Bethlehem, PA 18018. Arrangements are by the John F. Herron Funeral Home and Herron Crematory in Bethlehem.
