Richard Donald Trala, Sr.
Richard Donald Trala, Sr., 86, of Bethlehem PA passed away peacefully on January 3, 2022. Born in Quakertown, PA on December 21, 1935, he was the son of the late Marcin and Zophia (Wontroba) Trala and the brother to the late Alfreda Trala of Lansdale, PA. He was the devoted husband to Dorothy J. (Steeley) Trala whom he celebrated 61 years of marriage with this past October. He served in the US Army during the Viet Nam War and was honorably discharged in 1962. After graduating from Drexel University with a degree in civil engineering and Lehigh University with an MBA, Rich retired from Bethlehem Steel in 1996 after 30 years and then the USPS several years following. Richard was very involved in his kids lives growing up volunteering with the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, Coaching and Managing at Lehigh Little League, and many years involved with the Grenadier band. He spent his free time watching college basketball, Philadelphia sports, reading, collecting stamps, completing countless sudoku puzzles and was an avid Jeopardy fan where he amazed his kids and grandkids at all the answers he got right. Rich enjoyed spending time with his family and vacationing in Ocean City, NJ.
Survivors: He will be lovingly missed by his wife Dorothy; his son Richard Trala Jr. and wife Heidi of Richmond, VA; his daughter Patty Nichols and husband Doug of Milton, DE; and his eight grandchildren who he adored and was so very proud of: Hannah, Rachel, Nicholas and Noah Trala and Zachary, Emily, Ashley and Samantha Nichols.
