Agapoula “ Popi” Papageorgiou
With profound sadness we announce the passing of Agapoula “ Popi” Papageorgiou , 85 of Easton who died on May 15, 2020. Popi was a loving and devoted mother and friend to all whose lives she touched.
Born in Karpenisi Greece on January 30, 1935, Agapoula was the daughter of the late Panayiotti and Maria (Florakis) Apostolopoulos.
In 1957 she met her loving husband Nikitas Papageorgiou and in a whirlwind romance married that same year and immigrated to the United States settling in Easton, PA.
Agapoula is the precious mother of two daughters Antegone and Maria, the beloved mother in law on of Miltiadis and the proud grandmother of Katina (Jeffrey), Vasiliki, Theodore and Anastasios.
She is predeceased by her devoted husband Nikitas, sisters Vasiliki, Symirini, and brother John. She is survived by her sister Victoria, brothers Gus and George.
Agapoula lived a full life as a wonderful mother and homemaker and worked next to her husband in the family business in time of need. She was full of wit, energy and exuded a sassy attitude that was matched by none. She deeply loved her family and friends and her home was the hub of gatherings on weekends where she loved to entertain with her legendary Greek dishes. We will truly miss her spanakopita.
In the many family trips to Greece she instilled in her daughters strong values and Greek traditions that have served them well. She would often say “You need to know where you came from in order to know where you are going.” Of course she was right!
Agapoula was a member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Easton and the Ladies of Philoptochos where she helped with the baking and cooking at the yearly Greek festivals.
As a note to our mother from her girls: Mama, without hesitation you were the most amazing woman we have ever known and will ever know. We will remember your smile, we will remember your love, and we will remember your life. We know you are now with daddy sipping on Greek coffee and smiling down at us! We will continue to make you both proud! Love you and filakia!
